Patiala: A 100-year-old woman was found murdered outside her house in Daun Kalan village in Punjab on Monday. Her family has alleged that she was raped before being killed.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the woman’s half-naked body was discovered by the villagers who noticed blood under her cot. She used to sleep in the open, outside the house, the family said.
“She was lying half-naked on the cot with blood all over her mattress. We trailed the blood stains and found her clothes from a nearby field,” her grandson said.
The attackers are believed to have taken the elderly woman to the fields where they are suspected to have raped her and hit her with a wooden rod, causing severe injuries to her head. They then fled after putting her back to the cot.
The Patiala sadar police have registered a case of murder and are also probing the allegation of rape. They have sought her post-mortem report to ascertain if she was raped.
Meanwhile, police are conducting raids in the village to catch the attackers, who are suspected to be drug addicts.
