Gang allegedly buying lottery using fake Rs 1,000 notes

Thrissur: Guruvayur Temple police has started investigation in to the complaint that a gang has been circulating fake notes in the temple town by buying lottery tickets from agents near the Lord Sree Krishna Temple using thousand rupee notes. Agent ‘Maharaja’ Ramankutty, who sells tickets near the Souther Entrance of Lord Sree Krishnan Temple, had filed a complaint with the Temple police on Sunday alleging that a person who came in a car bought lottery tickets using Rs 1,000 note and though the agent was ready to give a discount for Rs 30 for the purchase he made for Rs 300, the person was reluctant to accept the discount.

When he checked the ticket in a note-checking machine, it was revealed that the note was fake and several other agents in the temple town complained of getting fake Rs 1,000 notes. N.Rajeshkumar, CI at the temple police station said that an investigation was being carried out on the complaint and it would be soon found out whether such a gang was working in the temple town for circulating fake notes. Meanwhile, based on the details given by Ramankutty, a person was chased down at Vaikom in Kottayam and has been detained on Monday in connection with the complaint, sources close to police said.
