Vizianagaram police arrested Vikram, the accused who slit the throat of 19-year-old Gauthami, on Tuesday.

Vizianagaram: Vizianagaram police arrested Vikram, the accused who slit the throat of 19-year-old Gauthami, on Tuesday. The accused fled from the scene after slitting the throat of the victim in front of her parents at Gajularega area under Two-Town police station limits in Vizianagaram town on Monday.

According to DSP Ramana, police booked cases under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) and under Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2013. Mr Ramana said that they would have taken preventive measures if the parents of the victim had informed them earlier about the accused person.

According to Mr Ramana, K. Vikram, an MBA student and native of S Kota area in the district, had started in an autorickshaw with an aim of murdering the victim and bought a knife in Vizianagaram on Monday. “Upon entering her home, Vikram slit her throat with a knife and fled from the spot. We could catch him within 24 hours after the mishap,” Mr. Ramana added. The injured girl was admitted to hospital, where her condition is said to be stable. The accused attacked her after she refused the marriage proposal from Vikram, who is a relative.
