Hyderabad: Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan funds misused, man held

The police has launched an investigation into the mission.

Hyderabad: Cyber Crime Police apprehended a person for cheating and misappropriation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) funds of Madrasas on Friday.

The suspect was identified as Myle Yougender Kumar alias Yogi, 37, a senior assistant at the District Educational Office (DEO) in Hyderabad.

“He was involved in the scam along with others who hatched a plan for enrolling fake Vidya Volunteers and opening bank accounts in their names. He duped eight Madarsas in the Old City of Hyderabad and siphoned off '18.60 lakh meant for the Vidya Volunteers of Madarasas teaching modern education to Muslim students and damaged the spirit behind providing funds of the Central government,” said the deputy commissioner of police, Cyber Crime Station, Detective Department, Avinash Mohanty.

“The suspect, M. Yougender, accepted a bribe of Rs 50,000 from Mohd Zubair to help him in the misappropriation of government funds at the SSA office. He had also destroyed key evidence and files pertaining to madrasas to escape prosecution and the law,” added Mr Mohanty.

The police has launched an investigation into the mission.
