Hyderabad: Saroornagar police has registered a case against Professor Dr Kancha Ilaiah for allegedly making defamatory statements about Hindu deities and the Vedas. Based on a petition by an advocate, a court directed the police to register a case against Dr Ilaiah.

The complainant, advocate K. Karuna Sagar, in his petition said that while addressing a seminar on May 15, Dr Ilaiah made derogatory comments against the Hindu faith and its gods and goddesses. He also made comments against the Vedas and said that they were confusing and none has gained anything from them.

“He used derogatory language against Lord Sri Ram, Lord Sri Krishna and Lakshmana. This is not the first time he is insulting Hindu deities and religion in public,” Mr Sagar stated in his petition. He added that by making such comments Dr Ilaiah intended to offend Hindu religious feelings.

The XI Metropolitan Magistrate of Cyberabad, directed Saroornagar police to register a case against Dr Ilaiah for making statements with a deliberate intent to hurt religious feelings (Section 298).
