Hyderabad: Cyber crime cops nab man for visa fraud

The victim said in his complaint that he approached the agency for H-1B visa on April 17.

Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime police arrested one person for cheating job aspirants on the pretext of providing visa on Wednesday. The accused was identified as Yadamreddy Gopi, 33. According to the police, he started a fake visa consultancy agency in Ameerpet and used to cheat gullible people who approached him for visa. Based on a complaint received by B. Vinod Kumar, a resident of Chintal Basthi near Khairatabad, Cyber Crime Police started an investigation. The victim said in his complaint that he approached the agency for H-1B visa on April 17. Gopi, after explaining him about the procedures for applying for visa, demanded an initial payment of Rs 2 lakh to begin the process.

“Vinod Kumar transferred the money to Gopi’s bank account but when there was no progress in the processing and the accused switched off his phone. Vinod got suspicious and approached the cyber crime department to register a case,” said Inspector, cyber crime, K.V.M. Prasad. “We worked out on the call data and found the suspect using the number of Yadamreddy Gopi, based on the tower locations of the accused.” added the Inspector. Two more persons were involved in the case who were identified as Karthik, who is now living in the US, and Rajender, native of Chandigarh. After the money was transferred, nearly 50 per cent of the amount was deposited into a bank account which belonged to Rajender. “Karthik and Gopi were friends. They were executing this together for many years,” he said.
