Hyderabad: Stalker who chased woman's cab traced

SHE team officials tracked him down on Saturday and let him off with a warning after the victim refused to file a case.

Hyderabad: A businessman from Banjara Hills was detained and let off with a warning on Saturday by officials part of the SHE team for allegedly stalking and making rude gestures at a woman.

Cops said one Muhammed Mubashir, a resident of Road No. 10, Banjara Hills, kept following the woman’s hired cab in his BMW while she was returning from work late on Monday night.

When the complainant reached her home, Mubashir stopped and allegedly made lewd gestures in her direction. He also continued to stay in his car. According to official reports, he left only when the woman started taking pictures of him using her mobile phone. The photographs were later produced as evidence and the SHE team took up the complaint and managed to track down Mubashir. He was immediately detained but let off after the victim refused to press further charges. “When the victim stepped out of her cab, he stopped his vehicle and continued to make lewd gestures. The cab driver and the watchman at her apartment tried to drive him away but he did not leave. The scared victim then called the emergency service and started taking photos of his car. He then fled,” the ACP said. The victim had detailed her harrowing encounter on Facebook saying a “creepy man was following her in a BMW and making vulgar gestures at her”.

“The victim came out of her office at Banjara Hills after midnight, and hailed a cab to reach home. Mubashir followed the cab all the way. At certain points, he even drove parallel to the cab and kept making gestures,” SHE team ACP D. Kavitha told DC.

After receiving the victim’s complaint, the cops managed to track the suspect down by Saturday.

Mubashir denied all charges, but officials had already recovered CCTV footage and co-ordinates from mobile phone towers which placed him at the location of the crime.
