Hyderabad: Man stabs woman, public hands him over to police

Police said that Sravan stabbed Sujatha thrice while she was on way to work.

Hyderabad: A woman was stabbed by her ex-lover on Thursday after she rejected his marriage proposal.

Police said that Sravan intercepted Sujatha on Thursday while she was on her way to work and stabbed her thrice with a knife. Passersby caught him and handed him over to the police. Sujatha was admitted to a private hospital and is now out of danger.

M. Sujatha, 22, and G. Sravan Kumar, 25, both from Hasmathpet, were in a relationship for nearly four years. A few days ago, when Sravan brought up the topic of marriage, Sujatha rejected it.

She started avoiding him since and they had arguments a couple of times, said the police. Sravan was working as a courier boy while Sujatha joined a new job two days ago. The two quarrelled on Wednesday night too, but Sujatha was firm in her decision.

On Thursday morning while Sujatha was on way to work Sravan intercepted her and tried to discuss the matter with her. “When she refused to talk he took out a knife and stabbed her in the stomach,” said Bowenpally SI B. Srinivas.

The public rushed to her rescue. After thrashing him they tied him with ropes and later handed him over to the police. “When we saw them, they were walking together. But suddenly he stabbed her and she collapsed on the ground,” said an eyewitness.

Sujatha was rushed to a nearby private hospital where she is recovering and is now out of danger.

During questioning, Sravan admitted to the police that he was carrying two knives, one to kill her and another to kill himself. A case of attempt to murder was registered against him.
