Bengaluru: Cops shoot at, injure murder accused

The police, who had formed special teams to nab the assailant, arrested Johnson on Friday based on credible information.

Bengaluru: A murder accused, who attacked policemen and tried to escape, was shot at and nabbed by the HAL police on Saturday morning.

Johnson, 21, a resident of Vibhutipura, was the criminal who has sustained bullet injuries and is being treated at a hospital. Johnson was involved in a murder and robbery case.

On the night of June 10, Johnson allegedly robbed a woman of her gold chain on Kaggadasapura Main Road and was trying to run away. Meanwhile, one, Sai Charan, 22, a resident of Kaggadasapura and an attendant in a private firm, had tried to nab him.

But Johnson, while escaping, had stabbed Charan twice in the back and had fled. Charan later died in a hospital.

The police, who had formed special teams to nab the assailant, arrested Johnson on Friday based on credible information.

“Around 10 am on Saturday morning, he was taken to Annasandrapalya for a mahazar and recovery in the murder case. On the pretext of attending nature’s call, he requested to be freed. When he was allowed to go, Johnson attacked constable Kantha. Another constable Manjesh, who went to the rescue of Mr Kantha, was also attacked by Johnson. We warned him to surrender and also fired a warning shot in the air. But he did not stop and continued to attack the policemen. Finally, HAL Police Inspector Sadiq Pasha shot at him in self-defence and Johnson sustained an injury in the leg. Later, he was shifted to a hospital,” the police said.

Johnson has also reportedly confessed to having committed another robbery that was reported in the HAL police limits on the night of June 5.

“In that case, a woman along with her male friend had gone for a walk near Vibhutipura Lake. Around 10.45 pm, Johnson tried to rob them, but as they started running, he had attacked the man with a knife and injured his left hand. He had robbed them of a mobile phone and cash,” the police said.
