Girl knifed on way to school near Avinashi in Tirupur district

The girl raised an alarm, even as shocked passers-by on that stretch turned panic seeing her bleeding.

COIMBATORE: The district police have launched a search for two persons who fled in motorcycle after slitting the throat of a class six girl of a government school near Avinashi in Tirupur district on Monday.

Police said that the 11-year-old minor girl, daughter of Murugan, a private mill worker residing in Nambiyampalayam near Avinashi, was heading to school this morning when two youth on a bike stalked her.

As they approached an isolated spot, the youth, slowed down their bike, allegedly slit the girl’s throat and sped away.

The girl raised an alarm, even as shocked passers-by on that stretch turned panic seeing her bleeding.

The girl was rescued by some other motorists passing by and rushed to the government hospital at Avinashi.

Doctors effectively stopped the bleeding. The girl’s condition was stable as the injury she suffered was not serious, doctors said.

On receiving information from members of the public, Avinashi police have lodged a complaint and started a full-fledged investigations to know the reason for the attack.
