13 killed, 20 injured in jeep-truck collision in Madhya Pradesh

The labourers were killed when the jeep carrying them collided with the truck coming from opposite direction, police said.

Bhopal: Thirteen persons, including six women and four children, were on Saturday killed and 20 others injured in two separate road accidents in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain and Neemuch districts, police said.

Ten persons, including four women and three children, hailing from Banswara district in Rajasthan, were killed while 19 others sustained injuries when their jeep collided with a truck early in the morning on the Dewas-Ujjain road in Ujjain, SP (Ujjain) Manohar Verma said.

Four persons died on the spot, while six succumbed to the injuries on the way to a hospital.

The SP said the injured, including the drivers of the two vehicles, were admitted to the government district hospital. He said the labourers were on their way to Ujjain town from Navgaon in the district when the mishap occurred, adding that the soya bean-laden truck was travelling from Dewas district to Ujjain.

A case has been registered in this regard and further investigations were on, the officer said.

At Neemuch, two women and a child, riding pillion on a motorcycle, were crushed to death by a truck coming from the opposite direction near Rahli-Kundi village on the Gandhi-Sagar road in the district.

Mukesh, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital, area Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Kailash Nahata said.

The deceased were identified as Mukesh's wife Indira Bai (28), their son Deepak (1) and relative Rekha Bai (21). They were residents of Rawatbhata town in Chittorgarh district, Nahata said.

A case has been registered against the unidentified truck driver, who managed to flee the spot along with his vehicle after the mishap.
