Hyderabad: Seven die, 8 injured in two road mishaps

Anantapur: At least seven people were killed and eight others injured in two separate road mishaps that took place in Anantapur district on Saturday. In the first incident, six people were killed and five others severely hurt in a crash involving a Chevrolet Tavera vehicle and a truck near Sankepalli village of the Mudigubba mandal of Anantapur district. According to the police, the truck was heading towards Anantapur from Kadiri when it hit the Tavera that was heading towards Tirupati, during the early hours of Saturday. Five people were killed on the spot and six others were severely injured.

According to police, the Tavera was carrying eleven people in total — all from Nalamangal in Doddabalapur taluk in Karnataka state. The victims have been identified as Kruthika, 3, Sailaja, 33, Nandish, 18, Kavya, 20, and driver Manjunath, 30. The injured have been identified as Ramaiah, Sumithra, Dhanush, Muniraj, Ananta Lakshmi and Sagar. All the injured have been shifted to Bengaluru for the emergency treatment. Two of the injured are in a critical condition while the others are said to be relatively stable, officials said.

Meanwhile, IT minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy expressed shock over the road accident near Sanpally in Mudigubba mandal in the district. He also ordered the tahsildar to send the bodies to Karnataka after the post-mortem. In the other mishap, two persons died in a road accident at Amudalakunta in Chenney Kothapalli mandal of Anantapur on Saturday. The accident occurred when a speeding car overturned near the village. Three others sustained injuries in the crash. The injured have been admitted at a hospital nearby.
