Kerala: Chargesheet filed in Surya murder after four months

The court granted permission to take his statement, which was recorded in a hospital in the presence of a doctor.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Around four months after the sensational murder of nurse Surya Nair by her lover near KSRTC Attingal depot, the local police filed a chargesheet in a court. The delay was allegedly caused by the ill health of the accused and it took four attempts for the police to gain permission from the court to take his statement.

Shiju, the accused had attempted suicide and due to loss of blood, he was in a weak condition without being able to lift his limbs, as per the contentions which were raised by his counsel. Finally, earlier this week, the court granted permission to take his statement, which was recorded in a hospital in the presence of a doctor.

Shiju allegedly hacked the victim in her neck with a machete after suspecting her for flirting with other men. The body of the victim was found in a bylane near a bus depot on January 27 as her family was busy fixing her marriage with another man. Further, he kept a letter in her bag which said that he was innocent. The man attempted suicide at a lodge in Kollam but survived.
