Hyderabad: Flyer with gold powder in shoes held

According to CISF officials, the passenger arrived at the airport from Dubai by an Air India flight, AI 952, at 5.40 am on Saturday.

Hyderabad: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) detected gold in the form of powder being smuggled while frisking passengers who were arriving to the city at the Shamshabad airport early on Saturday.

The passenger was carrying the powder in his shoes.

According to CISF officials, the passenger arrived at the airport from Dubai by an Air India flight, AI 952, at 5.40 am on Saturday.

The passenger, as part of the routine checks, was intercepted at departure while he was about to take another flight and his baggage was scanned with a handheld metal detector. The CISF identified the passenger as Nariyalwala Muhammadsaad Muhammadsuhel, who was taking an onward flight to Mumbai.

On examination, CISF assistant sub-inspector Satyajeet Balyan detected two packets of gold powder which were concealed in the passenger’s shoes. The gold powder weighed 478 gm, valued at around Rs 1.5 lakh. The official said, “The passenger admitted that the gold was smuggled into the country and he did not have any documents for it. The smuggled gold has been seized under the Customs Act.”
