Bengaluru: The 10th Magistrate Court on Friday remanded sacked Congress leader, Narayanaswamy, arrested for threatening to set fire to a BBMP ward office in Horamavu, to 14 days judicial custody. Mr Narayanaswamy, who was absconding since the video showing him pouring petrol inside the BBMP office went viral, surrendered before the Ramamurthynagar police Friday morning, where he was booked under sections 353 (public servant assaulting a person), 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (provocation with intent to breaching peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 427 (damage to property) of the IPC.
The incident took place on February 16 but no complaint was filed against the Congress leader, allegedly due to his strong political connections. It was only after the video of him threatening to set the BBMP office on fire went viral, that its officials came forward to lodge a complaint on February 20. In the video Mr Narayanaswamy is seen pouring petrol inside the office and on Assistant Revenue Officer, Chengal Rayappa, threatening to set both on fire after the ARO allegedly refused to sign on some property papers he had submitted to him.
The incident is only the latest in a string of recent embarrassments for Congress, which is not looking too happy with elections to the state assembly fast approaching.
