Bengaluru police arrests another chain snatcher

Gold jewellery weighing 191 grams and worth Rs 4.50 lakh has been recovered from the accused, police added.

Bengaluru: The Jeevanbhima Nagar police have arrested a notorious chain snatcher, cracked five cases and recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 4.50 lakh.

The accused has been identified as Prabhakar, 32. He was caught by the patrolling policemen in Geethanjali Layout as he was moving around suspiciously.

Police said the complainant, Lakshmi Kuttiamma, was snatched of her chain recently while on a morning walk at Puttappa Layout Road in New Thippasandra.

A person came on a motor cycle and accosted her. He abruptly snatched her chain, weighing 32 grams, and sped away.

"Within a week after the incident, probationary PSI Ningaraj and Chandrakanth Kanameshwar were on duty and they intercepted a person riding on a scooter and moving around suspiciously, near Kuvempu Park in Geethanjali Layout. As the rider did not provide satisfactory answers to their queries and the number plates of the vehicle were found fake he was arrested and interrogated.

He revealed that he had committed five chain snatching and burglary cases. With his arrest, three cases registered in JB Nagar station, one each in Indirangar and HAL stations have been solved," police said.

Gold jewellery weighing 191 grams and worth Rs 4.50 lakh has been recovered from the accused, police added.
