Kurien, Parassery house, Pallipuram, fourth accused, were remanded in judicial custody by the local court at Cherthala on Friday.

They had signed as witnesses on the documents that were forged in the name of Bindhu to strike land deals. Bindhu, who was unmarried, was staying alone at her home, Padmanivas, Alumkal junction, Kadakarapally, after the death of her parents. She sold ancestral properties worth crores of rupees. Her brother P. Praveen Kumar, settled in Italy, had registered a case with Pattanakkad police in May this year about the disappearance of his sister.

Praveen collected the details of the land dealings carried out by Bindhu at Edapally sub-registrar office, Ernakulam, in 2013. As per the documents seized, property worth Rs 5 crore was sold to a party hailing from Kollam. The police will submit an application to the registration department to withhold the deal. The investigation team questioned Beena Kurien who was sub-registrar during the registration. She is currently Kannur sub-registrar.
