Hyderabad: 1 held for trafficking on pretext of giving jobs

Police said Srinubabu was trafficking people from villages to Dubai and other Gulf countries,

Hyderabad: The SOT Malkajgiri zone apprehended a man involved in human trafficking.

The accused, identified as Yellamelli Srinubabu alias Alpa Srinu alias Prashanth, 49, was allegedly was sending individuals to the Gulf countries on the pretext of providing them jobs.

Police said Srinubabu was trafficking people from villages to Dubai and other Gulf countries on false promises of providing job visas but providing tourist visas instead, selling them to manpower agencies and earning money illegally by subjecting women to ill-treatment, sexual exploitation and mental and physical torture by agents and brokers, officials said.

Based on a tip-off, the staff of the SOT Malkajgiri team and Ghatkesar police apprehended Srinubabu on Tuesday, said additional DCP, SOT Rachakonda, J. Surender Reddy.

“The main accused, Pothula Srinubabu alias Dubai Srinu, a native of East Godavari district, along with Yellamelli Srinubabu, has been living in Dubai since several years and they were indulging in illegal human trafficking activities. On June 19, 2017 a case was registered with the Ghatkesar police for cheating a couple by providing them a tourist visa after collecting Rs 4 lakh and selling them to manpower agencies. The woman was subjected to wrongful confinement, ill-treatment and sexual exploitation by the agencies and returned with Pothula Srinubabu after four months. In connection with the case, Srinubabu’s brother Pothula Dass, cousin Trimurthulu and his associates Thathaji, Ramarao and Murali were arrested by SOT Malkajgiri team at Amalapuram, East Godavari district,” said the official.

In the last week of December, Srinubabu came to his native village to gather villagers, mostly women, for taking them to Dubai and Muscat to provide them ‘jobs’.

While he was convincing the villagers, he was apprehended by the SOT Malkajgiri team and produced before the court.
