Hyderabad: Newborn abandoned on roadside

Police said that on Sunday morning the public saw a baby boy in an open area near Narasimha Gudem hamlet in Mangalpally village.

Hyderabad: A newborn boy was found abandoned near a culvert in Nalgonda district on Sunday morning. The baby was found wrapped in a cloth by the roadside.

Police said on Sunday morning the public passing by the culvert connecting Mangalpally and Tatikal villages saw the baby in an open area near Narasimha Gudem hamlet in Mangalpally village. They immediately alerted the sarpanch who called the police.

Police shifted the baby to a nearby health centre and then to shishu vihar. Police said that there were no eyewitnesses as the spot is located in a remote area.

Based on a complaint from health workers, police registered a case under Section 317 (Abandonment of child under 12 years). Police suspects the child could have been born due to an extramarital affair or the baby’s parents may not want the child.
