Three held for ITI staff murder in Salem

Gopu had not returned home since he went for work on September 14, sources said.

Salem: At least three workers of a government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Salem were arrested on Saturday in connection with the alleged murder of an office assistant (OA) in the institute.

Police said here on Saturday that one Gopu, 35, working as OA at the ITI, was allegedly beaten to death by a four-member group including Selvaraj, a sanitary worker at the institute, in an inebriated condition. Gopu had not returned home since he went for work on September 14, sources said.

A resident of Ayya-n-thirumaligai in Salem, Gopu of late was residing with his mother after he had separated from his wife Ms. Kalavathi. Kalavathi on October 3 had filed a missing complaint with the Kannankurichi police. Probing the complaint, police nabbed Selvaraj, sanitary worker at the ITI, who gave contradictory statements. Police arrested Rajendran and Gnanasekaran and are looking for the fourth accomplice in the murder.
