Bengaluru: Rowdy attacks cops, shot at and arrested

Dorai is involved in eight cases, including four attempt to murder cases.

Bengaluru: A rowdy was shot at and arrested by the CCB police after he allegedly attacked a constable who tried to catch him. The incident took place near Acharya Institute of Technology in Soladevanahalli police station limits on Saturday morning.

Raja Dorai, 24, a resident of Bandenagar in Old Byappanahalli, is the rowdy who was shot and nabbed. Narasimhamurthy, the constable attached to the CCB, was injured in the attack and was treated as an outpatient.

According to the police, Raja was involved in eight cases and was a rowdy-sheeter at the Indiranagar police station. He was wanted in an attempt to murder case registered in Byappanahalli. The CCB’s Organised Crime Wing sleuths, who are assigned to catch absconding accused in murder and attempt to murder cases, got information that Dorai was at Eighth Mile on Tumakuru Road on Saturday morning. A team rushed to the spot, but he escaped on a motorbike.

“The police team chased him in a jeep and intercepted him behind Acharya Institute of Technology at Soladevanahalli around 7.30 am. When Narasimhamurthy tried to catch the rowdy, he attacked the constable with a lethal weapon and tried to escape. Inspector Prakash Rathod fired a warning shot, but Dorai still tried to escape. That was when the inspector fired a round at Dorai and the bullet struck him in the right leg. Both Dorai and the injured constable were rushed to the hospital,” the police said.

Dorai is involved in eight cases, including four attempt to murder cases. About a month ago, a rival gang attacked Dorai as he had attacked one of their gang members. When he saw the gang, Dorai escaped, but his friend, Madan, who was with him was hacked to death.
