Chennai: History-sheeter, woman murdered in 24 hours

Three people held for killing woman over filing FIR.

Chennai: Two murder cases were reported in the city on Friday night and police arrested three persons.

A history-sheeter, in the first incident, was hacked to death by a seven-member gang in Mandavelli and police suspected that the accused could have executed this murder due to previous enmity.

According to police, a car driver, Siva, residing in Mylapore was just talking to one of his friends near Manadavelli MTC bus depot. A group of seven men reportedly ring-fenced him closely. In no time, the gang started attacking him. Shocked, passers-by alerted the police, who rushed to the spot. The police, later, retrieved the body and sent it to the government Royapettah hospital for post-mortem.

Subsequently, police registered a case and started investigating the motive behind the murder. Enquiry revealed that Siva was involved in many crime related cases and this could have led the gang to retaliate with murder.

Three men kill a woman: In yet another case, police arrested three men for killing a woman and injuring her relative after a brawl erupted with their neighbours in Royapuram on Friday night.

According to police, the couple Premkumar, his wife Parameswari and daughter, aged 16, reside near Chetithottam in Royapuram. Their neighbour, Vinothkumar (26) had allegedly teased Parameswari’s daughter. Later, Parameswari lodged a complaint with Royapuram police, who warned Vinothkumar in the police station and let him off.

Meanwhile, Parameswari’s husband, Premkumar, who had gone to work, retuned to home on Friday night. “Coming to know of the incident, he went to Vinothkumar’s home and warned him of a dire consequence. Later, the quarrel turned out to be a fistfight and Vinothkumar thrashed Premkumar. Vinothkumar later passed information to his relatives.

Later, the accused with his relatives went to Premkumar’s house and again a tussle happened. Vinothkumar, then brought a knife from his house and started attacking the couple. His relatives too joined in the assault. While Mary (40), a relative of Premkumar, tried to prevent knife attack, she got severely injured and his sister, Merlin, was also attacked.

The neighbours after hearing the commotion reached the spot and took Mary and Merlin to government Stanley hospital. However, Mary was declared ‘brought dead’. Police registered a case and arrested three persons.
