Efforts on to nab 16 others who exploited the victim.

Hyderabad: Three persons, who visited a brothel at Happy Homes in Rajendranagar and sexually exploited a minor girl, were arrested under the Pocso Act and ammended CrPC. The police is making efforts to nab 16 others who also exploited the girl. The main kingpin, Nisha Khan, and two of her associates were caught by the police.

Mr K. Ganga Reddy, assistant commissioner of police Rajendranagar, said that the main accused detained a girl, aged 16 years, and forced her into prostitution. The teenager, a resident of Shaheennagar, had run away from her house and contacted Saba of Pahadishareef to get a housemaid’s job. She introduced her to Tahaseen Fatima, 32, of Suleimannagar in Rajendranagar.

Nisha gave Rs 3,000 to Tahaseen and Rs 2,000 to Saba for the girl. “Nisha Khan started the flesh trade at her house in Happy House and later shifted to another building at Lal Bungalow at Rajendranagar. The girl was tortured when she refused to follow the instructions and entertain the customers,” Mr Reddy said.

Somehow, the girl escaped from the house of Nisha Khan and approached the police who raided the brothel and caught Nisha Khan. “We suspect that her family members also supported her in the racket as they knew about the activity,” police said.

Need crackdown on customers: activists

Anti-trafficking and child rights activists have hailed the efforts of the Cyberabad police in nabbing three persons who sexually exploited a teenager. Ms Jameela Nishat, of Shaheen Women Resource and Welfare Association, said that cases of minor girls being forced into prostitution by elderly women are not new to the city. “The efforts of the police to trace customers and arrest them are commendable. Only a crackdown on customers will stop this,” she noted.

Mr Achyuta Rao, a child rights activist, said that generally the police wind up the investigation after rescuing minor girls from brothels, registering cases and sealing the houses where the activity continues. “The police has technology and they should use it. When there is no demand, there will be no supply,” Mr. Rao said.
