Hyderabad: Children consume insecticide, fall sick

The couple got married in 2009 and Redya has been harassing her for the past few years, said the official.

Hyderabad: Three children and their mother residing in Bhuvangiri mandal were rushed to the hospital on Thursday afternoon after the children mistakenly consumed cool drink laced with insecticide, which the mother had kept for herself.

According to inspector of Bhuvangiri rural police station Srinivas Reddy, Bookya Bharathi, 23, a farmer was saddened by the misbehaviour and harassment of her alcohol addict husband Bookya Redya, 32, a lorry driver.

“On Thursday, frustrated by the constant beating and harassment of her husband, Bharathi mixed insecticide in Maaza. However, her children Pallavi, 7, Vaishnavi, 5, and Uday, 4, came and drank it thinking it to be a cold drink. On seeing them consume it, Bharathi felt guilty and consumed the leftover cold drink,” added the official.

The mother and children were rushed to the hospital by their neighbours who saw them collapsing. According to the official, they are out of danger and might be discharged soon.

The couple got married in 2009 and Redya has been harassing her for the past few years, said the official.

He also added that Bharathi was subjected to physical and verbal abuse by her husband, since he came home inebriated.

A case has been registered against Redya at the Bhuvangiri rural police station under Section 498 (a) of IPC (harassment by husband or relative).
