Man found dead, honour killing suspected in Mandya district

The deceased has been identified as Nagesh, son of Krishnegowda and Shanthamma, and a native of Sindagatta village.

Mysuru: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 26-year-old man, who was reportedly in love with a Dalit girl, was found dead at Sindagatta in K.R. Pet Police station limits in Mandya district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Nagesh, son of Krishnegowda and Shanthamma, and a native of Sindagatta village. He was working at a hotel in Mumbai.

Nagesh was having an affair with one Bavya from Sarangi village and she was reportedly eight months pregnant. Though he had earlier promised to marry her, but had backed out. A case of rape and cheating, under Sections 376 and 420 of IPC, was registered against Nagesh in K.R. Pet Town police station on April 10.

On April 17, Bavya’s parents, Singraiah and Manjamma, had gone near Nagesh’s house. They had reportedly quarrelled and demanded money. Nagesh had arrived from Mumbai on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday morning, he was reportedly found hanging in their agricultural property, police said.

Nagesh’s mother Shanthamma has filed a complaint and a case of abetment to suicide has been registered under section 306 of IPC in K.R. Pet police station, police said.

The body has been kept at K.R. Pet government hospital and the autopsy is still pending. The police have begun an investigation to ascertain whether it was a suicide or murder.
