Bengaluru: Two men on bike tear woman's top

The police suspect the incident to be a chain snatching attempt.

BENGALURU: A 20-year-old woman, who was returning home after dinner at a restaurant, was allegedly molested by two bike-borne miscreants, who also allegedly tore her top before escaping. The incident was reported in HRBR Layout in Banasawadi police station limits on the night of February 12. The police, however, suspect it to be a case of chain snatching attempt.

The complainant, who works at the Kempegowda International Airport for a private airline company, was reportedly not willing to file the complaint and approached the police two days after the incident.

According to the police, the woman along with her female friend had gone to a restaurant in HRBR Layout on February 12 night for dinner, after which they were walking to their home close by. Around 10 pm, two men on a bike came from behind, held her top and it tore. As the two girls screamed and public started gathering, the miscreants sped away.

“The police were alerted about the incident and a patrolling vehicle was rushed to the spot. Though the police staff asked the girl to file a complaint, she said she did not want to file one. Two days later, on February 14, she turned up and registered a formal complaint,” the police said.

A senior police officer said that prima facie, it appears like a case of chain-snatching attempt. “The way the incident has occurred suggests that it’s a case of attempt for snatching her chain. As the miscreant tried to pull her chain and held her top, it was torn. However, we have registered an FIR under Section 354 of the IPC for outraging the modesty of a woman and are investigating further,” the official said.
