Bengaluru: Gang kidnaps, tortures woman, daughter

According to the police, the accused and the victims are neighbours.

Bengaluru: Accusing a woman and her daughter of helping a youth elope with another girl, a gang of five people, including three women, allegedly kidnapped the duo and subjected them to cruelty. The Nandini Layout police have arrested five people in this connection.

The arrested have been identified as Tasina Rehman, her brothers Imran Pasha and Jabiulla, his wife Yasmeen Taj, and neighbour Indramma. All are residents of Lakshmidevinagar in Nandini Layout.

According to the police, the accused and the victims are neighbours. A 15-year-old girl, who is the daughter of a relative to the accused, had recently eloped with one Shaukath, who hails from Assam, on January 16.

As Shaukath used to frequently visit the victims' house, as he worked with the woman at a hospital, the accused thought that she and her 20-year-old daughter had helped Shaukath elope with the girl.

“The eloped minor girl's mother had filed a kidnap complaint with the Nandini Layout police station,” police said.

Her relatives went to the victims' house to enquire about Shaukath. They told them that he lives at Assam Colony near Tin Factory. The same day the accused took the 20-year-old girl with them to locate Shaukath's house, but it was locked,” the police said.

“The next morning the accused again went to the victims' house and told the girl to accompany them to search Shaukath. When she refused, they forcibly dragged her inside the car and also kidnapped her mother, who tried to stop them. The accused allegedly took the duo to their house, where they were allegedly tortured. They assaulted them with a stick,” the police added.

“The accused had threatened them that they would kill the duo if they revealed about the incident to anyone. Based on the girl's complaint, the five have been arrested,” the police said.

The accused have been booked for kidnap, assault, outraging the modesty of women, criminal intimidation and other charges. Further investigations are on.
