Bengaluru: Man hangs minor son, ends life

The deceased have been identified as Maatharaju and his son Leela Manohar.

BENGALURU: Upset over his second wife deserting him, a 28-year-old man hanged his seven-year-old son and ended his life at Thoobarahallipalya in Whitefield police station limits on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Maatharaju and his son Leela Manohar. Maatharaju was a carpenter by profession and hailed from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the police, he got married to one, Lava, about 10 years ago and had two children from her, Nandini and Leela Manohar. As there were differences between them, they had approached family court for divorce and legally separated two years ago. As per the court order, the elder daughter was living with Lava, while Maatharaju had got the custody of his son.

“Just four months ago, he had got married to one, Devi. As they fought frequently over trivial issues, Devi deserted him after a few days and went to her parents’ house. Maatharaju was depressed and moved to his sister’s house in Thoobarahallipalya two months ago. He was not going to work and reportedly under depression,” the police said.

When his sister and brother-in-law went for work on Friday, Maatharaju hanged his son to the fan using a saree. Later, he also hanged himself. The incident came to light when the sister returned home in the evening. He had not left any suicide note and further investigations are on, the police added.
