Hyderabad: Indian fake currency notes printed in Pakistan have been smuggled to Hyderabad. A gang of three was arrested by the task force police on Wednesday with Pakistan-printed fake Indian currency worth Rs 9 lakh. The suspects said that an Indian living in Karachi supplied the cash to a Hyderabad resident, who smuggled it to India via Dubai.
Sleuths of the Commissioner’s Task Force (North Zone) arrested Mohammed Aqeel Marfani, a furniture trader, from Mughalpura, and two of his aides named Ghiyas Mohiuddin from Hussaini-alam, and Md Taufeeq Ahmed from Jallal Bagh when they were trying to exchange the currency. Police said Marfani smuggled the fake currency from Dubai after he got it from one Mohd Yaseen, who is now in Karachi.
“In July 2015, Marfani went to Sharjah and worked in a sanitary shop. While working there he met Yaseen, his maternal uncle, and requested him to arrange a good job for him. Yaseen then offered him a deal with the counterfeit Indian currency of '9 lakh. He got the currency smuggled from Karachi to Dubai with the help of an agent and asked him to circulate it in Hyderabad,” DCP B. Limba Reddy said.
As per the instruction of Yaseen, Marfani collected the fake notes and flew to Hyderabad on October 3. After successfully smuggling the currency through the airport he kept the bag of fake notes at his house. “To circulate the fakes he contacted Mohiuddin and Taufeeq, and they came to Mahankali police station limits with the notes. The cops seized the fake notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500,” the DCP said. He said the Pakistani suspect is absconding. A criminal case was registered with the Mahankali police under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
