Coimbatore: A tea shop owner was arrested under the Pocso Act and imprisoned for harassing a 16-year-old minor girl here.
Police said that the minor girl was studying plus-I in Sugunapuram Government higher secondary school in the city’s suburbs.
After her parents split following a quarrel, the girl was living along with her mother near Vedapatty Nagarajapuram.
The incident took place a few days back, while the girl was alone at home after her mother left for work. One Subramaniam (43), resident of Venkatapuram, owned a tea shop at the Coimbatore junction. He had entered the house making use of the situation, and had misbehaved with the girl, and told her not to tell anyone about it. However, the girl informed her father about Subramaniam.
On receiving a complaint, Perur All Women Police Station inspector, Anbu Selvi, registered a complaint under the Pocso Act against Subramaniam and arrested him. He was produced at the court here and imprisoned at the Central prison.
