Bengaluru: 3-year-old's death shrouded in mystery

After preliminary examinations, the doctors said that the child could have died due to improper treatment and the old injury.

Bengaluru: A three-year-old girl died under mysterious circumstances in D.J. Halli police limits on Tuesday evening.

The deceased child, Varsha, was the daughter of Priya and Manjunath. First, neighbours and some family members alleged that the mother, Priya, had beaten her to death. But the police ruled it out, saying the child only had an old injury on her leg. “The girl had fallen and fractured her leg. She was also undergoing treatment at a small ayurvedic centre. The child’s father works as a mason and the family is very poor,” an investigating officer said.

“The child also had bedsores and boils on the skin as it was bedridden. The blood samples have been sent to the lab and the body for the postmortem. The reason behind the child’s death will be known only after we get the reports,” he said.

After preliminary examinations, the doctors said that the child could have died due to improper treatment and the old injury.

A case of unnatural death under Section 174 of CrPc has been registered. Some neighbours alleged that the mother, Priya, who also has an older boy, used to ill-treat the children and beat them up often.

Priya’s mother-in-law, who had a verbal duel with her on Tuesday evening, alerted the police about the child’s death. The police are probing in all angles.
