Hyderabad: SOS call from woman puts officials on toes

Call a ploy' to extract money from customers for sex work.

Hyderabad: A 30-year-old sex worker dialled 100 on Sunday night and said that some persons were trying to kill her, sending the cops on a wild goose chase. When she was finally found in Jawaharnagar on Monday afternoon, it was revealed that she had made a false complaint.

According to the police, an unidentified woman had called the control room late on Sunday night and said that two persons were trying to kill her. The call was transferred to the Jawaharnagar police, based on the caller’s location, and police teams were immediately deputed to find the woman.

Within a few minutes of the call, the woman’s mobile phone was switched off, making it even more difficult for the cops to find her.

Four teams comprising 35 officers spent the night trying to track her down. On Monday afternoon, when the phone was switched on again, the cops were able to use its location to find the woman.

Upon inquiry, it emerged that she had been approached by two unidentified men for sexual intercourse. After having sex with them at an isolated spot, when she had demanded money, they had refused to pay her.

“Not knowing what to do, she called the police control room and said that the men were trying to kill her. It was a ploy to extract money from them. After she called the cops, the men paid her and fled from the spot. When she got the money, she switched off her mobile phone and went home,” investigating officials said.

The woman has two children. A case has been booked against her under Sections 182, 188 and 293 of the IPC, and she has been sent to remand.
