Hyderabad: The Supreme Court will on Friday begin its first hearing into the report submitted by the inquiry commission that probed the sensational Disha case.
Independent counsel P.V. Krishnamachary, representing the families of the four accused in the Disha case of 2019, said that Chief Justice N.V. Ramana, and Justices L. Nageswara Rao and Hima Kohli will be on the bench.
“All officials involved in its investigation, including the then commissioner of Cyberabad V.C. Sajjanar, other police personnel, and Clues team members will be present. The apex court will either pronounce its judgment or order further arguments in the case,” he said.
The inquiry commission appointed by the Supreme Court to probe the alleged encounter of the accused, Mohammed Arif, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen and Ch. Chennakesavulu, submitted its report before the apex court on January 28 this year.
The Supreme Court had on December 12, 2019 appointed a commission of inquiry (CoI) under the chairmanship of Justice V.S. Sirpurkar, former judge of the apex court, with Justice R.P. Sondur Baldota, former judge, Bombay High Court, and D.R. Kaarthikeyan, former CBI director, as its members to inquire into the circumstances in which the four persons were killed in Hyderabad on December 6, 2019, while in police custody.
The CoI collected documentary records, including investigation records, forensic reports, post-mortem reports, photographs and videos and held hearings between August 21 and November 15, 2021.
The commission examined 57 witnesses and recorded their evidence. Advocates for the State of Telangana, police officials involved in the incident and other interested parties participated in the hearings.
The commission heard the oral arguments of advocates from November 16-26, 2021, and inspected various places associated with the incident on December 5, 2021.
