Nellore: Student ends life allegedly after being blamed

The girl was hurt because the hostel staff questioned her as well as her father over the missing phone when he came to see her.

Nellore: A girl student of Gudur-based Audisankara College of Engineering and Technology committed suicide by hanging in the college hostel in the early hours of Monday. Akkupalli Madhavi, 17, was studying first year civil engineering and was from Vallvedu Manamala village near Srikalahasthi in Chittoor district.
Madhavi took the extreme step allegedly after her classmates suspected her to be involved in a missing mobile phone of one of the students.

Sources from the police department said that the girl was hurt because the hostel staff questioned her as well as her father over the missing phone when he came to see her. Activists from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad staged protest in front of the college demanding a probe into the incident. Chillakur SI Srinivasulu rushed to the spot and assured that they would investigate the issue and take action. Gudur DSP V.S. Rambabu said they have registered a case based on the complaint by the victim's father. He said the inquest is completed and the autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

In another incident, a student of the same college attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in his room at a private hostel at Gudur on Monday. The student identified as Durga Penchal Kumar belongs to Kasumuru in Venkatachalam mandal. He went home on Saturday and returned on Monday morning. His friends rushed him to a private hospital after they found him in an unconscious state. His condition is stated to be stable. The reason for the suicide attempt is not known.
