According to police, on Tuesday Alam Bhai was upset that the deceased man had not settled his bills for laying tiles in the house and in the agitation; he picked up a wooden log and smashed his head and fled the scene. He also smashed the head of the old woman too.

The neighbours who had seen a group of unidentified people running out of the flat rushed to check all the houses. To their horror, the elderly couple was lying amid a pool of blood on the third floor of the building. At around 8:30 pm, they alerted the police control room. After the bodies were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem, the search for the murderers began.

Police said they solved the case with the help of the CCTV camera footage recorded in the building and they narrowed down on the suspect from his house in Athipattu near Minjur early on Wednesday.
