Police tampered with my mobile phone: SAR Geelani to court

Geelani claimed that on February 17, police asked him to unlock his seized phone for the purpose of investigation.

New Delhi: Former DU lecturer SAR Geelani, booked for sedition charges, alleged before a Delhi court ion Friday that the police had tampered with his mobile phone during the investigation.

Geelani told Metropolitan Magisrate Harvinder Singh that after arresting him on February 16, the probe agency had taken away his mobile phone and other belongings from him.

He claimed that on February 17, the police asked him to unlock his seized phone for the purpose of investigation and he apprehended that they may have tampered with his call records.

"We wanted to bring it to the notice of the court that the investigating officer seized Geelani's phone and sealed it. However, a day after he was asked to unlock his phone, it was not sealed," advocate Satish Tamta, appearing for Geelani, said.

However, the investing agency refuted the allegations and said the mobile phone was sealed and was never opened.

The court which today dismissed Geelani's bail plea said that it would consider the matter tomorrow. He is in judicial custody till March 3.
