Chennai: Elderly woman hit by juvenile driver, dies

According to sources, on January 16, she was walking on the East Kalmandapam Road, when a car took a turn and hit her from the front.

Chennai: A speeding car which was being driven by a juvenile knocked down a 55-year-old woman on Wednesday. She succumbed to her injuries on Friday morning.

The incident happened when four juveniles who were on a fun trip in the car knocked down V Nirmala (55), a resident of Venkatesan Street in Royapuram. The woman was a fish vendor.

According to sources, on January 16, she was walking on the East Kalmandapam Road, when a car took a turn and hit her from the front. She was thrown on the road and she sustained injuries. The woman was rushed to the Stanley Government Hospital and was undergoing treatment. However, she succumbed to her injuries on Friday morning.

The Kasimedu Traffic Investigation Police registered a case.

The car was being driven by a 17-year-old schoolboy from Mannady.

Preliminary investigations revealed that his friend’s mother had borrowed the car from a woman in Bengaluru, a few days before the accident. The boys had planned to ride along the locality when the accident happened. The police said they have booked the woman who borrowed the car. “She will be arrested once she returns from Bengaluru,” a police officer said.
