Rajasthan: Woman flees from husband's house day after marriage, held

The woman was arrested for allegedly duping her husband's family on the pretext of marriage.

Bundi: A 19-year-old woman, who fled from her in-laws house a day after her marriage, was arrested for allegedly duping her husband's family on the pretext of marriage, in Lakheri railway station here, police said today.

The woman, who identified herself as Sandhya, a resident of Gole Basti in Jamshedpur, was arrested on Tuesday night.

She is a member of a gang involved in duping people by taking hefty amount for getting them married after which the bride escapes, Circle In-charge Narpatchand said.

According to complainant Kamlesh Kumar, he had contacted two middlemen - Harimohan Sharma and Ashok Kumar Sharma – for finding a bride for him, the officer said.

On January 15, the middlemen introduced the accused (Sandhya) to Kamlesh and his family who agreed for the marriage, he said, adding the marriage was solemnised on January 16 in a temple.

Kamlesh had paid Rs 1.61 lakhs to the two middlemen, the CI said.

The woman on Tuesday evening escaped from her in-laws house, he said.

The accused woman has confessed to have committed similar crime twice earlier in Guna and Shivpuri districts of Madhya Pradesh, the officer said.

She also revealed that she is part of a gang of 8-9 men and women involved in duping people after solemnising marriage with them, the CI said.

Police teams have been sent to various places in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to nab the other members of the gang, he said.

A team has also been sent to the accused's native place to ascertain her real identity as she has changed her name several times in past, the officer said.

The accused was produced in a court here on Wednesday that sent her to three days police remand, the CI said.
