Bengaluru: 35 detained for protesting in front of RBI office

Protest was organised by CPI (ML) Liberation, AICCTU, New Socialist Alternative Peoples' Solidarity Concerns, Street Hawkers Association.

Bengaluru: As many as 35 people from various organisations were detained on Thursday for trying to stage a protest in front of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) head office on Nrupatunga road against the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes.

The protest was organised by CPI (ML) Liberation, AICCTU, New Socialist Alternative Peoples’ Solidarity Concerns, Street Hawkers Association and Karnataka Tamil Makkal Aaikyam to stage ‘Occupy RBI’ against the demonetisation move.

A pamphlet was circulated where major activities were taking place, especially near ATMs and various banks to mobilize people for the protest. Protesters who were arrested include Comrade Jagadish Chandra, a member of New Socialist Alternative/ Peoples’ Solidarity Concerns and Comrade Balan who is the Karnataka State Secretary of AICCTU. An AAP supporter, identified as Vinay, and an advocate named Narasimhamurthy were also the ones among detained, the police said.
