Bengaluru: 11 thieves held, goods worth Rs 22 lakh recovered

The car was intercepted near Tin Factory bus-stop and sandalwood logs worth Rs 10 lakh were found.

Bengaluru: In a month-long special derive, the Whitefield division police arrested 11 people involved in robberies, vehicle thefts and smuggling of sandalwood.

The police claimed to have recovered goods worth over Rs 22 lakh from them.

On September 2, 2018, Mahadevapura police intercepted a car based on a tip-off that four people from Tamil Nadu were carrying sandalwood. The car was intercepted near Tin Factory bus-stop and sandalwood logs worth Rs 10 lakh were found. The police arrested Manjunath (21) and Govindraju (20), both from Tiruvannamalai, and Govindraju (36) and Shravana (23) from Salem. They had brought the sandalwood from TN and were to hand them over to their client in Bengaluru. The police are trying to trace the buyer. The K.R. Puram police arrested a vehicle lifter and recovered 14 two-wheelers worth Rs 9.50 lakh from him. The accused has been identified as Niyaz Ahmad (45) from Ambur in Tamil Nadu.
