Hyderabad: Cyberabad police arrested a driver and his five friends for housebreaking into his employer’s residence in Attapur on Thursday and looting him of 200 gram of gold and cash amounting to over Rs 42 lakh.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, Mr V.C. Sajjanar, the unguarded house and large amount of money kept in it had lured the driver to plan and execute the burglary. The men sprinkled chilli powder to keep the police team and dogs from reaching them.

“Mohammad Muqthar, 24, the driver, was working for Sanjeeva Reddy, and had planned the burglary after observing the huge amounts of cash kept in the house by his boss. Muqthar gathered his friends from his village to help him with the crime,” said Mr. Sajjanar, adding that they decamped with the booty when the employer and his family went to attend a relative’s wedding on April 16.

“The house was left completely unguarded, without any CCTV camera, which helped Baindla Yadagiri, 23, and Shaik Amjad, 21, the two other offenders to easily break into the house after cutting through the window grills,” he added.

“Guided by Muqthar, they chose the window at the back of the house. They then searched the two almirahs and collected 200 gram gold ornaments and stacks of cash. Amjad then contacted his brother, Shaik Jahangir, 24, and went to his house along with Yadagiri and the booty. Jahangir then counted the notes and distributed the amount between Yadagir, Amjad, Muqthar and also kept a share for himself. Gold ornaments were given to Yadagiri and Amjad. After a week, Muqthar paid Mangali Venkatesh, 21, and Mungimaal Mahesh, 21, a small sum to collect his share of Rs 10 lakh from Yadagiri,” said the Commissioner, adding that the bunch of robbers were residents of Vikarabad and this was their first attempt at house burglary. “Do not showcase your monetary transactions to others. Install CCTV in your homes,” appealed Mr V.C. Sajjanar, police commissioner.

The arrest was made after a complaint from Mr Sanjeeva Reddy, a businessman. Police recovered 200 gram gold ornaments and Rs 42.87 lakh from the burglars.
