Sarjapur building collapse: Owner's aide arrested

Tanveer was handed over the general power of attorney by the building owner, Ondath Kunhi Mohammad, a Kerala-based businessman.

Bengaluru: The Bellandur police have arrested one Tanveer Khan (34) in connection with the collapse of a five-storey building in Kasavanahalli on Thursday, which claimed four lives.

Tanveer was handed over the general power of attorney (GPA) by the building owner, Ondath Kunhi Mohammad, a Kerala-based businessman. The police said Mohammad was currently absconding in Kerala.

Mohammed had handed over the GPA to Tanveer to develop the property. Tanveer and Krishnakanth Reddy were in-charge of renovating the old building and converting it to a paying guest accommodation with 15 flats.

The police had earlier detained Sameera, daughter of Kunni Mohammed and wife of one Rafiq, who is also absconding. The police are investigating Sameera’s role in the construction work. BBMP Executive Engineer Munireddy was also detained for questioning.

Rescue operation
The joint rescue operation involving officials from NDRF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency, BBMP and local police entered the second day on Saturday.
They were clearing the debris to check whether more workers were trapped inside. The officials suspect that two more bodies may be trapped in the debris.
“We have been clearing the debris as we are not sure if there are workers trapped inside. We could be able to tell only after clearing the whole rubble,” a fire and emergency official said.Rescue operationRescue operation
