Bengaluru: A hotel owner in the city was allegedly assaulted by a few political party workers keeping his outlet open on September 10, when Congress party had called for a Bharat Bandh to protest against rising fuel prices.
The incident happened six days ago in Kammanahalli and came to light on Sunday after the victim released the CCTV footage to local TV news channels.
Based on a complaint, the Banaswadi police have filed a case against one Ashok Reddy and his followers, but no arrests have been made so far.
In his complaint, Ravi Kumar, the owner of Dose Corner Hotel in Kammanahalli claimed that Reddy and his seven followers barged into his hotel in the afternoon and picked up a verbal duel with him for keeping his hotel open, despite a bandh.
Reddy then assaulted him before leaving the hotel. Kumar said he did not approach the police as he was scared.
The police filed a case when Kumar approached them after releasing the CCTV footage to news channels.
A senior police officer said that they have begun investigation. The police, however, claimed the fight between Reddy and Kumar happened due to an old rivalry.
The police said they both had a standoff earlier and Reddy may have found bandh an appropriate excuse to take revenge. “We are examining the CCTV footage and are investigating all the angles,” he said.
