Hyderabad: A 22-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh who was harassing a girl by posting her private pictures online and also blackmailing her to extend sexual favours, was arrested by KPHB police on Sunday.
Police said that the accused was earlier arrested on a complaint by the victim a month ago, but did not change his attitude and started harassing her again.
KPHB police said that Prabhas Ponnana (22) a resident of Narsannapet village in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh came into contact with the woman through a common friend Shaikh Abdul, during her college days and became good friends with her. He is pursuing graduation in Fine Arts. After some days, Prabhas started harassing her by calling her and her parents. When she refused to speak to him, he would abuse her.
On her complaint, he was arrested and produced before a court for judicial remand. After being released on bail, he along with his father and friends started calling the girl’s mother and threatened her with dire consequences.
Later, Prabhas threatened that he would share her pictures online if she did not talk to him.
When she continued to refuse, he uploaded pictures on the internet with the intent to damage her character. Their friend Shaik also tried to negotiate with her on behalf of Prabhas to extend sexual favours, said police.
Based on a complaint from the woman, Prabhas has been arrested and is being produced before a court, said KPHB police on Sunday.
