Hyderabad: A 26-year-old daily wage earner attempted to rape a 14-year-old girl in Sanathnagar on Monday night. The victim raised an alarm following which the accused, Sai Kumar, fled from the spot.
According to police, the girl, a resident of Fatehnagar under Sanathnagar Police Station limits, is a student of Class IX in a Government high school. On Monday night, when there was a power cut, she went to a nearby community hall which was under construction.
It was dark. Sai Kumar, trying to take advantage of the situation, caught the girl from behind and overpowered her and attempted to rape her.
The girl, however, raised an alarm and, to her luck, the power supply was also restored at that moment. Her shouts were heard by the other residents. By the time they rushed to her aid, however, Sai Kumar had fled.
With the help of the locals, the parents of the girl lodged a complaint with Sanathnagar police, who registered a case under attempt to rape and charges of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The girl was taken for medical examination. Police said that teams have been formed to nab the absconding accused.
