HYDERABAD: The Telangana police has its own rendezvous with the Rajasthan-based criminal gangs, who are targeting the city-based businessmen.
The six-member gang, apprehended by the city police, abduct, extort and loot people at gun-point. The gang lured businessmen from the city to buy closed circuit cameras.

“After luring them to Rajasthan, the gang would abduct them and take pictures with guns and would send them to family members to extort money,” said Ms Swati Lakra, additional commissioner of police (crimes).

The police said that several Rajasthan-based gangs, including the tribal Bawariya gang, are active across the country.

The chaddi banyan gang, moving in Cyberabad, is based in Madhya Pradesh with presence in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the police said.

In Telangana, gangs from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar are active. “They are professional and brutal. Skilled police officers are send to arrest them. The Rajasthan-based gangs often attack the police teams with country-made weapons,” said Ms Janaki Sharmila, DCP, crimes, Cyberabad.

The gangs are involved in robberies, burglaries and daco-ities. Most of them prefer banks, jewellery and other places where they can get huge money at one go, the police added.

“Weapons are easily available in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. So the gangs always carry country-made weapons with them,” said V. Satyanarayana, DCP (south).
