Journalist Sunil Heggaravalli moves court against Ravi Belagere

Heggaravalli filed a petition before the 65th Sessions Court on Friday, under Section 301 of the CrPC.

BENGALURU: Journalist Sunil Heggaravalli has approached the court requesting that bail should not be granted to Ravi Belagere, editor of ‘Hai Bangalore’ Kannada weekly tabloid, who has been accused of giving supari to kill him.

Heggaravalli filed a petition before the 65th Sessions Court on Friday, under Section 301 of the CrPC.

Heggaravalli told Deccan Chronicle, “I have approached the court opposing granting bail to Belagere. Under Section 301 of the CrPC, my advocate Harish Kumar will assist the public prosecutor in Saturday’s trial. He will argue against granting bail to Belagere based on some points. One is that the threat for my life will be high if the accused is granted bail. Another is that there are already 15-20 warrants against Belagere. Also, we will request the court to cancel his interim bail and not grant him regular bail even on health grounds, as he can avail treatment being in judicial custody.”

He further alleged that the report on Belagere’s health submitted by his lawyers to the court was very old. “They have submitted health reports of 2013-14. If his health was really bad, why did the doctors at Victoria Hospital not admit him? All these facts will be presented before the court,” he added. The hearing of the Belagere’s bail petition would come up before the court on Saturday afternoon. If the court denies him bail, Belagere, who is currently at Jayadeva Hospital for treatment, would be shifted to jail after the treatment ends.
