Hyderabad: Four persons held for treasure hunt

The four broke into the sprawling house and dug up the premises for hidden treasures'.

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police on Friday arrested four members of a gang, including a godman and a godwoman, for hunting for ‘treasure’ at an abandoned ‘Dora Dadi’ at Yacharam. Police said that the four broke into the sprawling house and dug up the premises for hidden ‘treasures’. The suspects were identified as M.V.V.S. Rajendra Prasad and Chundi Koteshwar Rao and two spiritualists Nagendra Kumar and Parvathi. The fifth gang member and prime suspect in the case, L. Narsimha Reddy, is at large.

According to the police, the ancient Dora Gadi located at Medipally village contains 40 rooms and is owned by one Shashi Bhushan Rao. According to a legend, the house lying abandoned for more than 30 years, had treasures buried undergound on its premises. Doras are believed to have hidden their wealth underground before leaving their Gadis.

Ibrahimpatnam ACP S. Malla Reddy said the suspects had started digging up the floor and the compound for the past one week. Based on a tip-off from villagers, teams from Yacharam police station conducted raids and arrested the suspects.
On inquiry, they confessed that they were digging for treasures hidden underground.

The accused were produced in the court, while two cars and tools used for digging were seized. A hunt is on for Narsimha Reddy, the ACP said.
