The quartet had planned on murdering a fellow murder case suspect.

Chennai: Police averted a murder inside the George Town court on Saturday by apprehending four persons who had dangerous weapons inside an autorickshaw. They were waiting to finish off a suspect in a murder case inside the court premises, police said.

The arrested persons were identified as ‘Manda’ Murugan (30), Lakshmanan (32), Loganathan (30) of Durga Devi Nagar, Tondiarpet and Babu of Thiruvottiyur. The quartet was waiting in the court to execute Ramkumar (27) of Tondiarpet.

Murugan, Loganathan and Ramkumar were accused in an attempt to murder case in 2012. Murugan evaded trial twice and the case kept dragging for over five years. Ramkumar picked up a fight with Murugan over this and assaulted him.

Based on Murugan’s complaint, RK Nagar police had arrested Ram Kumar and he subsequently came out on conditional bail.

Meanwhile, Ram Kumar and others appeared before the XVI additional sessions court for trial in the murder case on Saturday. After the hearing, the gang, except for Ram Kumar, rushed and got into an autorickshaw parked inside the premises. Sensing trouble, Ram Kumar informed a constable, who picked up their conversations in the pretext of walking by the vehicle. Policemen also noticed a weapon inside the auto rickshaw. Two men who went looking for Ram Kumar were intercepted and interrogated and they spilled the beans.

North Beach police picked up the remaining gang members and they confessed to have hatched the murder plan inside the court premises after which their weapons were seized.
