Chennai: FIR against Congress functionary for creating ruckus

The pastor has a civil dispute with a group over rent paid by shopkeepers for shops set on church land, police sources said.

Chennai: The city police registered a FIR against city based builder and president of North Kancheepuram district Congress unit and pastor Ruby Manoharan and four others on charges of creating a ruckus in Selaiyur police station three days ago.

According to an FIR registered in Selaiyur station, Ruby Manoharan, along with his associates, stormed into the station around 8 pm questioning a police decision to summon the pastor in the church for investigation.

The pastor has a civil dispute with a group over rent paid by shopkeepers for shops set on church land, police sources said.

“The church had constructed a building and given it to a few shopkeepers years ago on minimal rent. The shopkeepers were recently asked to vacate and when they refused, their water and sewage connections were snapped by the building managers, after which the shopkeepers lodged a complaint”, a police official said.

Meanwhile, Manoharan and his associates continued shouting slogans inside the police station despite repeated requests from the inspector to behave properly.

A senior police officer had noticed the ruckus through CCTV footage from the station and directed the Inspector to register a case after which Selaiyur police booked the builder and others on charges of unlawful assembly and obstructing a public servant from discharging duty.
